🚝 Dad at Disney Weekly #051 ✨

Hi All,

Big one this week — I wrote the post three of you emailed me about in a panic: Disney's new DVC rental rules, and whether the reservation you rented is safe (spoiler: it is). Plus Food & Wine dates are locked, a sneaky-good afternoon ticket deal, and the lowest rental pricing of the year. Let's get to it:

LATEST NEWS

Is renting DVC points still allowed?…. yes — and the headlines this spring were scarier than the policy. Disney's March 31 update targets owners flipping 20+ reservations a year like a business, not families renting points for a vacation. I broke down the renter's side nobody else covered: is your reservation safe (yes), will prices move (maybe a little), and the one thing you should do differently now (skip the Facebook-group rentals, use a broker). Read the full renter's breakdown.

Food & Wine dates are locked: August 27 – November 21…. included with regular EPCOT admission, 32-36 booths, and yes — it works with kids if you run the right system. My new survival guide covers the strawberry-icon trick, the $10 Remy scavenger hunt that buys you 90 minutes of peace, and why Saturdays are a trap (booth lines run 15-25% longer).

A 2pm ticket for $116…. Disney's new Afternoon Date-Based Tickets (on sale through July 29) get you into one park per day starting at 2pm, in 2- or 3-day options from $116/day. If your kids nap anyway, you're barely losing park time — this is real money back.

Pour one out for the Carousel of Progress…. it closed July 6 for a full timeline overhaul — reopening in 2027 starting at the moon landing instead of the 1900s. The 40-minute air-conditioned dad nap will return, just more modern.

DISNEY DEALS

The lowest rental pricing of the year is live…. DVC Rental Store's "Summer of Savings" has new 0-7 month bookings at $19 per point — and the window lines up exactly with Food & Wine season. A fall trip booked inside 7 months right now is about as cheap as Deluxe gets. Note: the $19 rate is for new point rentals, not confirmed reservations, so resort flexibility helps. Doing festival math?…. quick version: booth plates run $5-10, and a realistic Food & Wine budget for a family of four is $80-150 — which mostly replaces a table-service lunch, so it washes out. Full cost table in this week's festival guide.

The #1 thing in my park bag every summer…. the JISULIFE handheld mini fan does triple duty — up to 19 hours of cooling, a built-in flashlight, AND it works as a phone power bank when your battery dies at 4pm. 🔥

Stop paying $5 for water in the parks…. the Owala FreeSip water bottle has a spill-proof locking spout, keeps ice cold for hours, and fits the stroller cup holder. Refill at the quick-service fountains 💧

Florida afternoon downpour incoming…. the Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite 2 Poncho packs into a pouch and beats the $20 gift-shop ponchos every time ☔️

Skip the $35 headband line…. these mouse ears headband 2-packs run under $15 for two — soft, comfy, and the kids genuinely can't tell the difference 🎀

Halloween costume hack…. Amazon's kids' Disney costumes for MNSSHP 2026 — way cheaper than parks pricing, way more comfortable for a long park night. Order now if you're going in August 🎃
